TSUUT’INA NATION, AB – March 11, 2026 — The first residents have officially moved into Taza Park, marking the start of residential life within Taza, a 50/50 partnership between Tsuut’ina Nation and Canadian developer Canderel. Taza is one of the largest Indigenous-led developments in North America, and this milestone signals the transition from plans and infrastructure to families, home and neighbourhood life, all while the community continues to be actively built out.

With keys in hand, the inaugural homeowners will bring to life Taza Park’s streets with daily routines, neighbours and community activity. Their arrival opens a new chapter on lands being developed through the Taza partnership, with thousands more residents expected to call the 470-acre community home in the years ahead. As Taza Park grows, construction and purposeful planning continue, bringing new homes, amenities and public spaces online in phases.

Part of the broader 1,200-acre Taza development, Taza Park is envisioned as a complete community: more than 6,500 homes alongside retail and commercial, parks, wetlands and gathering places designed to reflect Tsuut’ina values while welcoming residents from Tsuut’ina Nation, Calgary, southern Alberta and beyond. “For generations, we have worked towards building economic opportunity on our Nation that respects our land, our people and our responsibilities to future generations,” said Xakiji-tii (Head Chief) Ellery Starlight, Tsuut’ina Nation. “This milestone marks the beginning of a neighbourhood where relationships can grow and community can thrive. We’re very proud of the progress we’ve made, and we remain focused on doing things the right way, with purpose, transparency, and lasting benefit for our Nation. Today, I am overwhelmed with pride to welcome the first residents to Taza Park in Tsuut’ina Nation.”

“Today’s milestone reflects years of disciplined planning and execution shaped through partnership and shared commitment,” said James Robertson, President, Taza Development Corp. “Seeing families receive their keys and moving into the community is the moment the Taza vision becomes real. It marks the beginning of a community that will grow for generations, delivering long-term economic opportunity for Tsuut’ina Nation and meaningful benefits for residents as we continue to advance each phase.”

Residential construction at Taza Park advances through partnerships with Brookfield Residential, Crystal Creek Homes and Homes by Avi – builders selected to help bring the community vision to life. The first completed homes are within Aurora at Taza Park, a collection of contemporary townhomes by Homes by Avi.

Aurora introduces 46 thoughtfully designed row townhomes, including options with secondary suites, open-concept living spaces, and modern architectural character to support diverse household needs and long-term livability. The development creates an inviting streetscape and lays the groundwork for neighbourhood life as Taza Park continues to grow.

“Welcoming our first homeowners to Taza Park is a landmark moment for Homes by Avi,” says Vered Amir, VP Brand Leadership & Community Engagement.  “We recognize the significance of Tsuu’tina Nation choosing to share their land and its vision for the future, and we are truly honoured to help bring that vision to life.  Together, we are creating more than homes, we are shaping a vibrant community that will serve families for generations.”

Taza Park’s residential neighbourhood is advancing alongside significant infrastructure and public realm investments, including roadways, utilities, green spaces and access to nearby natural amenities such as Weaselhead Flats and North Glenmore Park. More than 50 acres of ponds, wetlands and parks are planned, reinforcing Taza’s commitment to environmental stewardship and culturally integrated design.

As additional homes, amenities and public spaces come online, today’s milestone marks the beginning of Taza Park’s evolution into a complete community – grounded in the Tsuut’ina Nation–Canderel partnership and designed to grow alongside Calgary for decades to come. About Taza

Decades in the making, Taza is one of the largest and most influential First Nation development projects located on 1,200 acres of Tsuut’ina land. Consisting of three unique, but related community villages—Taza Park, Buffalo Run and The Crossing, Taza is integrated through a comprehensive framework of Tsuut’ina and City of Calgary infrastructure. The villages are physically connected via Tsuut’ina Trail, which is part of the Southwest Calgary Ring Road, a critical piece of transportation infrastructure for the Calgary and Southern Alberta regions. Each community village has a distinct character built around a guiding philosophy and distinct design principles. Led by Taza Development Corp, Taza will create a unique sense of place, drawing on the history, culture and stories of the Tsuut’ina Nation.
