Join us for a rare, hands-on experience with the healing plants native to this land.

Most of us pass the same plants every day without knowing the stories or the benefits they hold. On Sunday, June 28, Herbal Connections invites you to slow down and look closer. Guided by a community educator & plant enthusiast, you will learn the meaning behind seven plants that hold deep significance for the Tsuut’ina Nation. Then, turn that knowledge into a botanical spray you blend yourself and carry home.

Herbal Connections is the first event in the Taza Event Series — a series of experiences designed to bring community together and honour the Indigenous culture and land at the heart of Taza. Each session is small by design, so spaces are limited and worth claiming early.

HOW EACH SESSION WORKS

Your registration holds your place in a one-hour session with two parts it begins with a lesson on various plants native to this land and ends with a guided spray bar workshop. You move through both at your own pace. We suggest starting with the teachings, since what you learn will shape the botanical blend you create next.

Throughout the day each session will focus on a different plant. Whether you are drawn to a specific botanical or simply want to find a time that fits your schedule, choose the session that speaks to you.

  • 12:00 PM – Saskatoon Berry
  • 1:00 PM – Poplar
  • 2:00 PM – Sweetgrass & Sweet Pine
  • 3:00 PM – Buffalo Grass / Sage
  • 4:00 PM – Wild Mint
lEARN FROM A Tsuut’ina community educator & plant enthusiast

Your session begins on the land we all share. Ellison Starlight leads the teachings through a cultural lens, walking you through the meaning and the medicinal role of the plant’s native to Tsuut’ina and Taza Park. Bring your questions! This is time set aside for listening, for curiosity, and for seeing a familiar landscape in a new way.

Locally gathered herbs and plants set the tone for an afternoon of plant teachings.
Make an Essential Oil Botanical Spray to Take Home

Next, wellness educator Sachin Sundra guides the spray bar, where the teachings become something, you can hold. Starting from an Alberta wild rose hydrosol base, you build a blend from four botanicals tied to Ellison’s teachings: wild mint, sage, buffalo grass, and sweet pine. You measure, blend, pour, and seal your own bottle, then leave with a recipe card listing the Tsuut’ina plant names so you can make the spray again at home.

Each guest bottles their own “Taza Park Herbal Connections” spray to take home.
Sip Tea and Snack on Fresh Bannock

Between the teachings and the workshop, settle in at the tea bar. Pour a cup of loose-leaf tea and sweeten it with Tribal Honey from Dan Crane, harvested on Tsuut’ina land. Snack on fresh Bannock bread, homemade Saskatoon berry jam, and seasonal fruit from Little Chief Catering. It is an unhurried corner to share stories and connect with your fellow attendees.

Freshly baked bannock and sweet homemade Saskatoon berry jam, beautifully served by Grey Eagle Resort’s Little Chief Catering for the Taza Park Sales & Marketing Centre Grand Opening which took place in May 2025.
