It’s 8:00 AM at Taza Park. The light is still low over the foothills, and a resident hasn’t decided whether the day belongs to the city or the river valley. Both are close enough to Taza Park to keep the choice open all day, so it rarely has to be one or the other.
That balance is the design. Downtown sits 10 minutes out, the Elbow River and the Weaselhead Flats begin where the backyards end, and nearly everything else falls somewhere in between. This is what daily life looks like when the city and the valley are both minutes away.

Urban Convenience: Downtown Calgary in 10 Minutes
Coffee in hand, you’re out the door and downtown in 10 minutes, early enough to be at your desk before your first meeting. Most suburbs ask you to trade quiet mornings for long commutes, and most people take the deal because they assume it is the only one on offer. Taza Park is the exception. The drive is short, the timing holds, and you stop building your day around it.

Run Errands With Ease: Shopping, Dining and Services Close to Home
Ask anyone what they lose to errands and the answer is rarely the errands themselves. It is the time it takes to drive between them.
At Taza Park, driving is minimal. Tsuut’ina Trail takes you to Buffalo Run village, where The Shops at Buffalo Run is open and busy, covering the everyday services a household runs on, with a Real Canadian Superstore on the way. When the list is longer, Signal Hill and Westhills are five minutes north with more retail, services and dining. Groceries, a haircut, and a prescription to pick up become a morning’s work rather than a whole Saturday.
Retail Main Street, still ahead of us, closes the distance further. The plan is a walkable street along Tsuut’ina Parkway, with storefronts at the sidewalk, patios and trees for afternoon shade. Walmart is confirmed as an anchor, targeted to open in winter 2027. As the homes fill in, the shops follow, until the errands that need a car today happen on foot.
Green Space at the Back Door: Trails and Water, Year-Round
By early afternoon, the screen stops holding your attention and the great outdoors start calling. Pathways run from Taza Park straight into the Weaselhead Flats. Within a few minutes, traffic noise gives way to moving water and birdsong, and the city becomes something happening somewhere else.
With more time, ride to the Glenmore Reservoir, where a 15 km loop traces the shoreline and the water changes character with the season. Aspens turn gold in fall, ice gives way to open water in spring, and sailboats crowd the surface by summer. The view turns over every few weeks, and here it belongs to a Tuesday afternoon rather than a weekend expedition.

Evenings Out: Music, Local Sport and Time on the Water
Grab your jacket, not your car keys. The Grey Eagle Event Centre is close enough to reach on foot, and it hosts touring musicians and live entertainment all year. A night out can begin with a short walk instead of a planned commute. There are games at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex, and on the Glenmore Reservoir, the Calgary Canoe Club has boats out until the last hour of light fades, the kind of evening worth building a schedule around.
Golf closes out the day just as easily. Earl Grey Golf Club, Lakeview Golf Course, and the Calgary Golf and Country Club sit roughly 10 minutes out, close enough for nine holes after work and still time for dinner.

Student Life: Mount Royal University, Five Minutes from Home
You leave the house, and roughly five minutes later you’re on campus, whether you drive or ride. That’s the reality for Mount Royal University students and faculty living at Taza Park. Office hours and dinner at home can happen in the same evening. Forget a textbook, and it costs you ten minutes, not an afternoon.
Studying late, grabbing dinner between lectures, ducking home to reset before the next class: none of it asks you to cross the city or watch the clock for traffic.

The Mountains Are Calling: Explore Alberta’s Backyard
There’s a version of mountain weekends that starts with an alarm before sunrise and a long drive just to reach the highway. This isn’t that version. Bragg Creek sits roughly 30 minutes from Taza Park, Canmore about an hour, close enough that the Rockies become something you decide on over breakfast. Hike in summer, ski in winter, and be on a trail before the morning is half over.
