2025 was a remarkable year of progress across Taza’s community villages. From major residential milestones and meaningful cultural engagement to exciting retail announcements and vibrant community events, this year reflects the shared vision, collaboration, and momentum shaping Taza’s future. As a growing community development near Calgary, Taza continues to build welcoming and connected places for residents, visitors, and partners alike.

As we look back on these achievements, we also look forward—with excitement and purpose—to everything on the horizon for 2026.

Residential Growth: Bringing Taza Park to Life

This year marked several major steps toward welcoming residents into Taza Park, as vision began to translate into tangible progress on the ground. From the opening of the Taza Park Sales & Marketing Centre to the introduction of builder partners and the start of construction, these milestones signal the beginning of a thoughtfully planned residential community taking shape.

Sales & Marketing Centre Grand Opening

In May, the Taza Park Sales & Marketing Centre officially opened its doors, kicking off the first phase of residential sales and providing a dedicated office for the Taza team to work alongside the growing community. Designed as an innovative and experiential space, the Centre invites visitors to explore the future of the community through interactive displays, purposeful storytelling and community-building. It has quickly become a hub of activity and connection, setting the stage for Taza’s next chapter of residential living.

First Three Residential Builder Partners Announced

Alongside the opening of the Taza Park Sales & Marketing Centre, we also welcomed our initial residential builder partners—Brookfield Residential, Crystal Creek Homes, and Homes by Avi—marking an impactful step forward in bringing Taza Park to life. Together, these builders are shaping a thoughtfully designed selection of high-quality homes designed to support a variety of lifestyles and every stage of life.

Breaking Ground and Building Skyward

Construction momentum accelerated throughout the year, beginning with Brookfield Residential breaking ground in April, followed by Homes by Avi in June and Crystal Creek Homes in September. As the year comes to a close, builders have progressed into vertical construction, bringing homes above ground and taking us closer to welcoming residents as early as February 2026. Together, these milestones mark the early foundations of a vibrant residential community within one of the most significant residential projects near Calgary.

Retail & Business: Expanding Convenience and Opportunity

2025 also brought significant expansion across Taza’s retail districts, reinforcing the vision of creating a dynamic hub for commerce, culture, and connection. Taza continues to welcome diverse businesses that serve Tsuut’ina Nation and nearby communities, while expanding retail opportunities near Calgary.

New Tenants at Buffalo Run and Taza Park

The Shops at Buffalo Run continued to grow this year, reaching nearly 90% capacity with the addition of new tenants, including Pure Passion Dance and the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation. At Taza Park, Volkswagen and Tsuut’ina Gas officially opened, adding new layers of convenience and service for future residents, visitors, and the surrounding communities.

Superstore Launches Historic Partnership

In June, we broke ground on the new Real Canadian Superstore—a historic partnership marking Alberta’s first Loblaw location on Indigenous land. More than a new grocery store, it underscores  Taza’s commitment to essential services, expanded food access, and long-term community prosperity.

Leaders from Loblaw, Taza, and Tsuut’ina Nation gathered on site for a ground blessing ceremony, marking the beginning of a historic partnership and the future home of the Superstore.
Taza Park West Welcomed Walmart as the First Anchor Tenant

Notably, Walmart Canada was announced as the anchor tenant for Taza Park West, with the new Supercentre set to open in 2027. This partnership will significantly expand access to essential goods while creating valuable employment opportunities for community members. Together, these milestones strengthen Taza’s position as a growing retail destination and unique gathering place.

Celebrating Community Together

2025 was filled with events that brought people together, supported cultural expression, and strengthened community ties.

Something Wondrous Brought Music, Dancing and Culture to Taza

On September 13, Taza welcomed community members to the Taza Park Sales & Marketing Centre for Something Wondrous, a celebration of Tsuut’ina Nation culture featuring live music and traditional Indigenous performances, a market featuring artisan vendors, interactive workshops, and local food trucks. The event created meaningful moments of connection and shared experience, offering visitors a glimpse of everyday life in Taza’s growing community village.

Capes Were Flying at the Superhero Dash YYC

Taza participated in the second annual Canderel Défi Superhero Dash YYC, joining friends, partners and colleagues for a family-friendly run in support of cancer research—bringing energy, connection, and purpose to an important community cause.

Holiday Magic Glistened Under the Stars

This year’s Under the Stars series lit up Taza Park and Buffalo Run with two festive gatherings—bringing Santa photos, an indoor roller rink, cookie decorating, cultural performances, and joyful moments for families and neighbours to launch the holiday season.

Christmas at the Nation Celebrated Creativity and Community Spirit

The 5th annual Christmas at the Nation brought three days of culture and community to Tsuut’ina Nation—more than 200 Indigenous and local artisans, Tsuut’ina dance performances, Elder storytelling, and family-friendly festivities. As Presenting Sponsor, Taza is proud to support an event that champions Indigenous entrepreneurship, arts and community economic development.

Cultural Connection: Honouring Tradition and Storytelling

Taza’s work is thoughtfully guided by Tsuut’ina principles, including our connection to the land. Meaningful appreciation and integration of Tsuu’tina culture and art took place throughout the year, ensuring that the growth and development of Taza reflect the values and vision of Tsuut’ina Nation.

Elder Engagement Sessions

For the first time, Elders from Tsuut’ina Nation gathered at the Sales & Marketing Centre for an engagement session focused on exploring the future of Taza. This session created space for dialogue, questions, and collaboration, ensuring the project continues to reflect the Nation’s priorities and perspectives as it continues to evolve.

Construction Momentum: Building the Future

Across Taza’s villages, 2025 brought visible, measurable progress—turning plans into places. At Taza Park, new roads, sidewalks, and streetscapes are defining a walkable, welcoming core and building the connective tissue for a place to live, gather, and grow. In Buffalo Run, infrastructure and servicing advanced the next phase of development, setting the stage for future retail and commercial spaces. Together, these projects signal real momentum toward a vibrant, well-connected community. For a detailed breakdown, read the 2025 construction report.
