Enoch Civil Construction Partners with Tsuut’ina Nation to Build Capacity at Buffalo Run Ahead of Historic Real Canadian Superstore Construction.
Earlier this year, a significant step forward was taken on Tsuut’ina Nation land with the announcement that Enoch Civil Construction, a 100% Indigenous-owned company from Enoch Cree Nation, would serve as the contractor responsible for earthworks and deep utility installation at Buffalo Run. This milestone marked an important moment of collaboration and economic opportunity, as Enoch Civil Construction began leading a team including five subcontractors from Tsuut’ina Nation—a partnership designed to foster skills development, mentorship, and local workforce growth.
To honour the beginning of this collaboration, a Ground Blessing Ceremony was held at Buffalo Run, led by Tsuut’ina Nation Elder Alex Crowchild. Joined by Tsuut’ina Nation leadership, Enoch Civil Construction, and project partners, the gathering recognized the cultural significance of the moment and celebrated the shared commitment to partnership and progress.
The work undertaken by Enoch Civil Construction is more than infrastructure; it is a purposeful investment in Indigenous capacity and long-term prosperity for Tsuut’ina Nation. Tim Alexander, Executive at Enoch Civil Construction and Enoch Cree Nation member, shared, “Our main purpose is to work with Nation-owned contractors and Nation operators and employees to build capacity … making a successful partnership with the Nation.”
Real Canadian Superstore Marks A New Chapter at Buffalo Run
Building on the momentum of this partnership, Buffalo Run saw another historic milestone with the announcement of the first Real Canadian Superstore in Alberta developed in partnership with an Indigenous community. This flagship store will be a cornerstone of Buffalo Run—a 390-acre district within Taza.
To honour this groundbreaking announcement, a second Ground Blessing Ceremony was held, again led by Tsuut’ina Nation Elder Alex Crowchild. This ceremony celebrated the next phase of development, aligning the project with cultural traditions and community values. The official groundbreaking event brought together Tsuut’ina Nation leadership, Loblaw Companies Limited, Enoch Civil Construction, and other project partners to mark the beginning of construction on this landmark retail development.

A Partnership Rooted in Respect and Shared Vision
Taza’s approach to development is rooted in cultural respect, community engagement, and economic opportunity. The partnership with Enoch Civil Construction and the collaboration with Tsuut’ina Nation subcontractors exemplifies this vision, ensuring that Indigenous knowledge and leadership are central to Buffalo Run’s growth.
This model builds meaningful pathways for Indigenous tradespeople to gain hands-on experience and grow their businesses, helping nurture economic sovereignty within the Nation.
Keith Ward reflects, “It’s a huge honour to be allowed to do a project like this, and I look forward to what we’re going to build here.”
Looking Ahead: Building Prosperity Together
As Buffalo Run continues to develop, it will become a vibrant community hub where commerce and culture thrive side by side. The Real Canadian Superstore will anchor this vision, bringing jobs, services, and new economic activity to the area.
More importantly, these projects represent a new way forward, where Indigenous values and urban development expertise combine to create spaces that honour tradition and support future generations.
The combined efforts of Enoch Civil Construction, Tsuut’ina Nation subcontractors, and project partners demonstrate the transformative potential of Indigenous-led capacity building and respectful collaboration.
